Absolute Mangoyou know how people always seem to stress the importance of enjoying the process rather than the result? "Oh, if you don't succeed in so-and-so, it's fine so long as you've tried your best."
bullshit.
such statements are just gaudy wrappings disguising whatever hideous facts our patronisers think we can't face. it's awful, really, to propose that the tangibles don't matter when we're staring at a dog-eat-dog / bitch-fight-bitch world straight in the face. too often, we've been afraid to deviate from the politically correct. what's the difference between reassuring a fat girl that curves are in, and comforting a stupid one that her attitude takes precedence over her grades? face it, the recipe for aunt agony calls for tact, which is practically made up of condescend.
no employer gives a fuck about you if your curriculum vitae is less than desirable. no coach gives a damn about the hardworkers who aren't as fast as the talent-borns. alright, maybe the word 'no' here is a bit harsh. surely there are some decent ones out there who actually take the time to sieve out the personality. but come on, who usually has the time? general employers are just hr managers scrolling through endless piles of resumes selecting whoever looks best on the cover page, and by that i mean they measure the number of awards AND (subconsciourly) your looks on a scale of one to ten.
i guess my cynicism grows with the amount of exposure i get (ie. outside of the sheltered and pampered brats-breeding ground that rjc is). or maybe i'm just getting old and bitter.
